History of Odiorne Point State Park

Odiorne Point State Park was named after the Odiorne family, who settled at the site during the European settlement era, around the 1660's. The park also holds a historical significance from World War II, when the United States military constructed Fort Dearborn as a training facility and as a stronghold against predicted attacks from the Germans. The United States military sold the site to the state of New Hampshire after the war, and the state of New Hampshire reopened the site as the Odiorne Point State Park.
