Cardigan State Park

Hikers have the time of their lives at Cardigan State Park. Located in the mountains of New Hampshire, this park boasts over 5,000 acres of wilderness and miles of maintained and rugged trails. The park is not staffed, but is open during all months of the year for recreational enjoyment.
The scenery
One of the main attractions of the park is its scenic views. A road leads up Mount Cardigan to the 3,100 foot summit, which is notably treeless and composed of granite. From the summit, visitors can see Mount Monadnock, the White Mountains and Camel's Hump. They can even see Pleasant Mountain in Maine off in the distance.
Favorite trails
The West Ridge Trail is a favorite with hikers of all abilities. A parking lot is located at the trail head for easy access. There is also a picnic area, covered shelter and restrooms at the start of the trail. The trail is a tough climb, but not technically difficult. It rises over 1,200 feet for over 1 1/2 miles. Large portions of the trail consist of log staircases and wooden bridges in areas that are otherwise very difficult to climb. South Ridge Trail is another favorite with hikers and notably flatter; Bayland Trail is a good choice for beginners.
Visitors to Cardigan State Park come from all over just to hike the marked trails to the summit and enjoy the view. This truly is a unique experience and allows you to see the mountains of New Hampshire in their natural glory.
