Ahern State Park

Ahern State Park, formerly the site of the Laconia State School until 1991, was called Governor's State Park in 1994 and renamed by statute in 1998. The park spans 128 acres with 3,500 feet of shoreline on Lake Winnisquam in Laconia, New Hampshire. The park offers swimming, hiking, biking and fishing.

Activities

Known to locals as "Secret Beach," this undeveloped lake area is a very popular spot for mountain bikers for its biking trails. The waterfront has two small beaches which are used by swimmers and non-motorized boaters. Fishing is allowed, and the lake is full of rainbow and lake trout, salmon, small and largemouth bass, pickerel, horned pout and white perch.

Amenities

There are no amenities in the Ahern State Park other than parking and pit toilets. If emergency help is needed, it is recommended that you call 911. Bring an emergency kit with you and plenty of water and snacks.

Pets and motorized boats

Pets are not allowed at Ahern State Park. See the New Hampshire State Parks pets policy for more information. Motorized boats are also not allowed on the lake. It is unsafe for swimmers and non-motorized boaters, so take caution and follow the regulations.

While Ahern State Park is quite undeveloped, it offers a beautiful retreat for locals and tourists to get away from the hustle and bustle of the everyday life and kick back and enjoy nature in its raw beauty. Get back to nature with at this primitive, yet peaceful park.
