Get Active in the Great State of New Hampshire

New Hampshire parks provide a panoply of outdoor recreational options in the scenic mountains, hills and valleys of the Granite State. The upper New England climate allows for a number of winter activities, such as snowshoeing and mushing, unavailable in most states. Campers and hikers can see how the short summer months make up for their brevity with beauty, and the fall foliage colors in New Hampshire are famous worldwide.

Those who love fresh powder should head to New Hampshire parks in the winter months. If you have a team of sled dogs, then the state has an active Mushers Association that uses the many park trails that you will want to check out. Snowshoeing, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing are also popular trail activities.

Franconia Notch State Park, located at Cannon Mountain, is the gem of the New Hampshire state parks system. Once the location of the granite Old Man in the Mountain formation before its fall, Franconia Notch is a high, winding mountain pass. Activities include an aerial tramway, the Flume Gorge pathway over covered bridges and waterfalls, granite potholes and the New England Ski Museum.
